Charlotte Checkers: A Few Facts

You probably won’t find any of their games on your Directv Madison WI channels but if you happen to be in Charlotte you’ve got to see the Checkers play! They’re one of the best teams in minor league hockey right now and they’ve got a rabid fan base. Here are a few things you should know about the Checks:
They play at Time Warner Arena, home to the Charlotte Bobcats. The games are typically on Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday nights and the arena offers great rates for families and corporate groups.
They’re the farm team for the Hurricanes. The Carolina Hurricanes are one of the biggest teams in the NHL, fan-wise, and that’s because there are so few teams in the south. With Charlotte only 3 hours from Raleigh where the Canes play it’s a natural fit. Many of the Checkers players will be or once were Canes players.
Their colors are red and black. After flirting with red and blue for a few seasons the Checkers have officially switched to black and red jerseys, mimicking the nearby Hurricanes.
